Focus on Anri Kruger

PALI 2022 graduate Anri Kruger is a great example of an artist with multiple skills. As an actress, she starred in the 2022 films Dina Dagbreek and Ongepoets. But her talent doesn’t stop there. Anri also has another skill – she has worked as a Wardrobe Assistant on the films Nagval op Donkerdraai, Dans dat die Biesies Bewe and most recently on the Showmax series Reënboogrant. For this month’s Focus On, we checked in with Anri to find out what drives her.

When and how did you realise you would like to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

My sister (Cara Kruger) and I have always been a bit dramatic – big and bold with our imaginations. We didn’t just play “teacher-teacher” or “doctor-doctor.” We lived it. It wasn’t a game; it was our reality. I used to think I wanted to be famous – but I just want to do what I love with amazing people. Whether one person sees it, a hundred, or no one at all – I will still create art.

What is your favourite memory of your time at PALI? What was your favourite student production?

My favourite memory from my time at PALI will always be the people. Most of them really lived for the arts. It inspired me so much to learn from others and to share in their successes. Even though it can be cut-throat and brutal at times, I had people who were genuinely happy for me. It was, of course, such a joy to be able to learn and grow alongside my twin sister. My favourite student production was one my sister wrote called Seks, Liefde en die Huweliksnag – it was hilarious and so relatable.

Besides being a very talented Actress, you also work in the Wardrobe Department on film sets. Why do you think it is important for artists to have multiple skills?

I absolutely love fashion and how people can choose to either stand out or blend in – whatever you feel like. It’s so important to have different skills, because realistically, not everyone gets to work in front of the cameras. I definitely want to be in the industry, even if it’s not always as an actress. I love being part of a film in the making, so I’m grateful to be wherever I’m needed– but costume/wardrobe and acting will always have a special place in my heart.

Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?

Do everything as if you are doing it for Christ. There is success and favour in His name. He is the One who makes it possible.

We are eagerly keeping an eye on this young artist’s career and look forward to see what she will achieve in the nearby future.
